Do you see the white circle at the intersections flashing black?
Science do not understand exactuly how this happens. They tend to believe that there is a special mechanism in our eyes for seeing edges. When perceiving the edges, our light receptors will switch off their neighbouring reflectors, making the edges of the perceived object more pronounced. Everything in the periphery will be summed up more coarsely. In the case of the illusion, the circle at the intersection is discoloured by the brian. The brain tries to fill the white spot with black shades.
